My first acquisition for 2024 is this salty SS-VT Schiffchen by Clemens Wagner of Hamburg. The cap is extremely worn and full of moth nips and has many worn out bare spots in the nap. It has a nice earth brown liner with the faint maker stamp. This cap really has the look of having been there. Surprisingly it looks like it managed to retain it's original insignia all these years.

The Totenkopf button is marked rzm 63 for Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid. It's the proper field green painted variety that has lost about 50% of it's finish and is showing corrosion. It's been sewn on with period thread to the cotter pin holding it in place and has probably been there since it's inception

The eagle is threadbare but original and as rare as hen's teeth. You can see it's neatly machine sewn in the same period thread of the cap

The cap makes for a great display

It looks great with my other Schiffchen's. Look at the variety of materials and shades of feldgrau

I've always liked the look of these Verfügungstruppe caps. Sure, the machine-woven BeVo insignia is probably the most recognizable, but the I've always thought the simple mounted totenkopf button looked really nice. It makes for a unique looking cap. Congrats on adding another to the collection!

Thanks, I've been fortunate to find these in various states of disrepair and missing insignia making them a little more affordable to add to the collection. I would love to add an m43 version but they are insanely priced.
