Thank you very much Mr Berthold for your additional responses. It did confirm one of my suspicions they do have some age to them as they retain that soiled textile smell that accompanies old linens exposed to the elements for many years, in the tab set's case I would guess a smokers house? And I must admit it gave me a glimmer of delusion "they could be real?" But alas like watching the polished ball fall in the roulette slot next to your number hopes are dashed! The trial and agony of the SS things mean frequent disappointment.
It is normal.
It happens to me often.

Here is an example of the 1960s fakes from Breuer. It is a redyed Bundesgrenzschutz tunic from the 1950s, as sold in the 1960s.
I encountered one of these ca. 1966. I was a young pup, to be sure.
I got my first EKI in about 1962, as I recall. I still have it, also.
Apropos disappointments, someone tried to hose me with one of these fake shoulder boards in the last eleven months.....
Here is a real one....that is, here are two real ones....
Which is to say, that for beginner today, these fake things have been around a long time.
