Steve,
The Germans used the J quite often on the tags or wrtitten docs to represent the I of Infanterie.
The problem on this one is they have used the J at the end to represent the 1 as well , looks like a bit of a schoolboy error.
Plus T Div Divisonal level replacement units would most likely end in a 3 not a 1 or if a Regimental replacement Btl it would follow the Regimental numbers which for the Totenkopf Infanterie Regiments would be 5 or 6 !! Hope that makes sense ??
regards
Paul

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Of course, you're always welcome. I've got more than a few inches.........or so I'm told
There are books on the German tags, but in case you're lazy, like me. Here is an excellent site on what to look for, this site has so much information in it.........enjoy
