SS Hauptsturmführer collar tab without silver piping?

Forgive my ignorance but how come there are some SS officer collar tabs that don't have silver pipings?

Possibly either removed or unfinished. If uniform removed, sloppy cutting could have cut some of the stitches that held the silver piping in place. From one image, I can give an opinion on originality.
