Default SS tab with paper backing

    Hi Forum,

This tab has the thin twisted silver pipin. This looks genuine to me. The back of the tab is where I have some concerns. Instead of the ordinary buckram backing there is brown paper/ cardboard used. Is this period made? I have seen the BEVO woven EM runic tabs with paper backing which everyone agrees on is period (late war manufactoring). But officer bullion ones? Would love to read some thoughts about this. Thank you.

Yes this kind of cardboard back can be found on SS bevo tab but also on Luftwaffe tabs.

Thank you Carlsson for your opinion. It is always appreciated. So it seems the officer embroided cardboard backing is a green light.

VERY unusual to find on an officers' bullion tab, but it certainly looks original!

    I Imagine the cardboard is a replacement/repair.

I'm not o sure about that- it is the identical cardboard found on some EM Bevo tabs, so I think it was constructed this way...

I have never seen any other tab except the Bevo type that uses cardboard. Arran however knows his stuff and I bow to him.

    Looks quite similar. Doesn't it?

The cardboard/ paper looks exactly like the BEVO woven SS runic backing. I was having concerns about the black threading used for stitches as well. (see them often with silver wire) However, the below example with buckram has the same wire stitchings. My gut feeling says 75% green light on this one.
