Here's an interesting one for discussion.
For your review is an M34 field service cap with brown soutache remnants.
Beginning in 1939, copper brown waffenfarbe was worn by the SSVT Aufklarungs Abteilung (motorized recon) but was changed to yellow (Mollo book 7) and verified in the Angolia book. BUT copper brown was worn by both SSVT AA AND SSTV AA (Angolia page 234) .
However it is a given that the yellow color was the de facto color that was worn by AA units.
SSTV KZ units wore Hellbraun (light brown) starting 1940 to end of war according to Mollo; mid-42 would have been the remove order according to Angolia.
In my view, if the soutache in copper brown, then it's SSVT AA or SSTV AA.
If the soutache is Hellbraun (light brown), then it's SSTV KZ.
I've included some high magnification photos of the soutache on the inside of the flap, where it would have been protected from sunlight & fading.
In my opinion it's Hellbraun as copper brown would be much darker, but your thoughts & opinions are most welcome.
Thanks!
