If you want to collect SS headgear, spend the 25$us and become a gold member of the forum.
This opens up the headgear reference section which is an invaluable resource to the TR collector.
We just saved you from spending thousands of dollars on a fake, so spend 25$.

Every day dozens of poorly made fakes are uploaded to Ebay and too many times I see some misguided collectors bid hundreds of euros for them.

Easiest ''on the nose'' way to detect these fake caps IMO are the obvious cheap plastic peaks that are almost always sanded to make them appear old. Genuine vulcanfibre is very distinguishable.
