Is this Heer panzer NCO wearing a black SS tunic? Is this photo even real? I've never seen a tunic like this before. I know Germans could get all kinds of custom things done at a tailor but this just seems bizarre...

Very interesting! It does appear to be a former SS tunic. I've seen a black SS visor cap converted for HG panzer use, and I suppose anything was possible when it came to "walking out" attire. Thanks for posting!

No problem. I randomly stumbled upon this in Google. The guy was a highly decorated German Cross bearer so likely very respected, and probably the reason why no one dared to question his fashion choices!
