Yet another ruined original German WW1 helmet ruined courtesy of the Wrecker from Riga. Currently on eBay at $358 USD with 18 bids and described as in original and good condition. He’s not the only one doing this by any stretch of the imagination but his fakes would be quite convincing to those just starting out collecting. And such a shame to see so many original helmets being ruined. Original Feldgrau WW1 stahlhelms will one day be quite scarce.

Your right Andy, in the Japanese collecting community you have idiots destroying original flags by writing Japanese Kanji on them with a Sharpie black marker and selling them as originals, these boneheads are morally bankrupt and and flip a finger at history and see only money!

Most definitely. But it’s the little things like the fake feldgrau (no age to it and colour is off) which was applied onto the smooth steel but can be seen to be applied over a small bit of texture material in the bottom right of the last image. The dimpled/pitted chinstrap lug with paint in the pits. Fake liner etc. but yes, I totally agree, especially with the exterior paint.

It really is a shame to ruin a historical artefact in this way just to make even more money... People should really be ashamed of what they are doing!!!

Not only do they cheat people out of their hard-earned money, they also destroy a piece of history! Which in my eyes is a mortal sin. I know there are other opinions on this, but in my opinion historical things should always be kept in their original state. Even a so-called "restoration" where the paint is stripped to reveal a decal, the existing paint is renewed, a damaged lining is replaced, or the like robs the piece of some of its past and destroys its historical value...
