    Hi Paul,

I’d love to see these pads in hand as they very much look like a set of well used Imperial German chrome tanned liner pads, however there are a few things that are a bit odd…. When I try to enlarge the images they tend to blurr, however, it looks like the point at which the two lines of stitching meet in the corner appears to continue on to the edge of the pad unlike originals that end at right angles (see original example of chrome tanned pads below). Could just be the photos, so better hi res closeups would certainly help either way.

Moreover, the “Z” pattern stitching on each pad in the centre is also not something I’ve seen on original WW1 German chrome tanned pads and likewise the numbering. With all of that being said, they do look quite convincing and if it wasn’t for the numbering and odd “Z” stitching I would have to say original as nothing looks contrived. But whether they are decades old fakes or altered originals I’m not sure.

I did look at a lot of orginal chrome tanned linerpads in different sources and refence books. I do think you made the right conclusion. I let these pass. I could not find one that had these "Z" stitched. And also the stitching on the corner is different. I wondered about the stamped number. Also a thing I never encountered in any helmet before. So thanks fot the head up and your eagle eye for details.

    Thx Paul
