Pulled this one out of the woodwork a few weeks ago, so it was my first of 2023. Was in a family for a long time, not much more known due to the passing of those who knew more details. Took the opportunity to bring it out in the bright sun this morning.

It's an ET M18 size 64 with two of factory liner pads still present. It received an brushed on exterior black coat of paint over the original "feldgrau". There is a naming or unit info written on one liner pad, but haven't quite figured out what it says yet .

Kind of a cool find with some interesting possibilities...... As always, opinions and comments are most welcome.

Maybe early SS? The paint looks period to me. Jim G.

Certainly a great pickup John! Nothing written under the liner pads?

Nice helmet, if you have a UV light it might make the writing clearer.

Yes Andy, there is writing under one of the pads. Thanks for the reminding me! As time allows, I'm going to photograph and manipulate the photos and see what I can discern.

I'm considering the same Jim, as it's also a possibility.

I agree with Jim regarding the age of the paint and potential for it being SS amongst other organisations. I had a little go at playing with the image. You’ll probably get better results with your photos.

Andy, I'm thinking SS indications as well.

Thanks for trying Andy, much appreciated. I'll take some better photos this coming week. Currently were are approaching -50 deg F with the wind chill factor. Montreal Express for two days, and a somewhat crazy anomaly temperature wise. Safe to say, I'm not going skinny dipping or doing outdoor photos today.
