Finnish M16.

Hi this is my newest acquisition for my collection. Very interesting Finnish M16 with alot of wear, about 50% of the paint remaining. It still retains the original WW1 issued liner pins, but has a new finnish Liner replacement, it also has some sort of ersatz stirnpanzer horns replacement. I cant tell if the germans did this during the interwar period of if it was done by the fins. Either way a Very interesting feature, the helmet seems to be size 64, thus the size 66 horns are incorrect. Not only that the horns seems way longer, and looks like some sort of stirnpanzer horns, you would find on a ”himmler” helmet, they were known to be abit longer and more crude looking then the normal horns. The helmet is also marked on the backside which would indicate that it has undergone warehouse repair, also note it is named ”TJ” on the front twice.

Very nice Patrik and thanks for introducing me to these helmets. They certainly have quite a bit of history behind them. The fourth photo down is wonderful the way the light is sitting on one side of the helmet. The vent lugs remind me a little of the lugs on some of the early 30’s German contract helmets and the leather looks very subtle. Great pickup and congrats.

5 pin holes indicate it has been refurbished year 1955 or after.

Horns, most likely Finns repaired or replaced missing horns with Random horns. Finns never had forehead bulletproof armorplates, so repair depot wouldn't have know about correct sizes.

"TJ" markings are super common in Finnish garrisons and can be found anywhere. Meaning "Tänään Jäljelllä" = Service days left, and number of remaining days.
