I have been given what looks like a German steel helmet.

It is metal and bits of it seem worn away around the rim. The green paint
covers what is probably metal flakes and other coats of paint and wear.
It is black under the later applied paint.

    Thank you all.

Not sure if there is a question.

But what you have is a heavily corroded WW1 M16 relic helmet that has been probably put in an acid bath and then scrubbed down and repainted (with what appears to be multiple layers of paint).

Being a WW1 helmet it is in the wrong forum. So I have moved it to the correct Imperial section.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

As MAP says, a very relic condition WW1 helmet. It’s missing the vent lugs which also makes the appearance even stranger. Potentially saw service in WW2 as the liner pins aren’t WW1, but either way painted post war. Not much more to say really.
