Hello everyone!
I recently came into the possesion of this helmet and after a few hours of trawling the internet I think it may be an Austrian M-16. I admit I have no previous knowledge in regards to identifying any type of helmet before, so I was hoping that you gentlemen would be able to give me some much needed advice!
Your expertise is much appreciated!
Thanks!
Hi Daniel, welcome to the Forum !
You are correct, it is an Austrian M16 - and a very nice one.........!
Regards,
Steve.
Hello Steve!
Thanks for your reply, I was wondering what the going rate for one of these. I've looked at a few websites and got some conflicting values.
Thanks again,
Daniel
That is a very nice Austrian M-16 Helmet. Going rate is hard as its what someone is prepared to pay for it. I know others might correct me here but I would be in the $400-$600 ranges if I were in the market for one
$400-$600 is a good estimate, but I think yours may be on the higher end
of the scale, Daniel. It is in such excellent condition and is complete
with it's liner and chinstrap - which are both undamaged.
These do not go for as much as the German type.........

Steve.
Hi
The cap I think may well be a 1920's made item. I'm sorry to put forward a view that may not fit with any expectations of the cap being a WW1 pilots.
My rationale is that the Imperial caps did not have a celluloid in the crown and the fleiger cap had a field grey cloth crown and black cap band with red piping for specialist troops.
Looking at the monitor is your cap green with brown cap band ? Is the piping grey ?
Based on this my initial guess would be maybe a state police (in this case wurttemburg looking at the cockade).
hope this helps set the discussion in motion. I may well be very wrong !
cheers
tony
A very nice Austrian M16.
Anton
