Chinstrap codes, what does it mean?
The chinstrap that came with my recent M40 purchase has the following code stamped into it.
It looks like: RFNI 0/0494/0008
I assume the code must signify something...manufacturer? date? serial number?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Glenn

Re: Chinstrap codes, what does it mean?
For safety reasons the manufacturer name was replaced by RF/Rb code , a similar code was used on the linerbands. Probably this practice started around 1943.
Knowing the manufacturer and town was beneficial to the British bombing campaign.

Thanks! Good information!
So the 0/0494/0008 is just a serial number?

Re: Chinstrap codes, what does it mean?
No it's a unique code that specifies the manufacturer.
