Dd helmets fake?

Couple of helmets coming up at an auction near me
My gut says they are probably not legit
Any thoughts?

Are the images in the auction site better than these i.e. high res? That’s what your going to need if you are wanting a good appraisal. I would also want to see a lot more photos of the liner, extreme closeups of the decals and better lighting as there is a lot of light reflecting off these images. These sorts of lids are high ticket items and demand proper photography.

What price are these helmets starting at?

Thanks for getting back to me, they are the only images available on the website but I’ve emailed to ask for more detailed pictures
Bidding is starting at either 800 or 1000 off the Top of my head
They do t specialise in militaria it’s just a standard antiques auction house so either they are fake and they don’t realise or they are genuine and they don’t realise the value

Hello Samowen, to start with those prices are quite low for what these images represent. These sorts of helmets go for prices over 10K US so these low bidding prices may be a bit of a red flag. Helmets of this calibre don’t come cheap and as a good friend once told me “nice things cost money”.

When buying from an auction house you are also sometimes at the mercy of the general antique specialist who may have only a passing knowledge of helmets and militaria but not the degree of a specialist. If the auction dealers are not willing to send you much better high res images it’s definitely time to keep moving. Let’s wait and see what the images are like and then let our SS experts assess the helmets. In the meantime have look at similar helmets on SS steel as these are the types of prices you would normally expect and the standard of images that you would want to see. SS_Steel_original_helmets

Thanks for this, I’ve been looking on ss steel and ruptured duck but because the images are so poor it’s super hard to tell. We will wait and see if they come back with any better quality pictures

Quality coat $$$. A starting price on a true DD M35 SS is going to be much higher. Andy is 100% correct in this regards

Photos suck...but both are bad for me. i wouldn't bid on them.
