Default Heer M18 transitional SD, ET66?

    Hello friends,

I have today this nice Heer M18 transitional single-decal, with what appears to be a HJ&K re-issue/transitional decal in good condition over a nice thick coat of feldgrau. Beneath this can be seen the previous finish, a much lighter grey-green that I believe is correct for WWI-era helmets.

The liner is a steel-banded M31 with rounded bale corners and a steel buckle to the unmarked chin-strap, so rather a late reissue. However the pins are quite loosely applied, so the liner could possibly be a replacement.

I can just about make out a factory stamp to the inside of the skirt, which I believe reads ET66. The liner is about a size 57 so this should be correct - ? See last photo where I have it outlined in red.

    Thanks for looking!

Looks like a very nice example. On WWII helmets a size 66 shell should have a 58 or 59 liner but with WWI shells and transitionals, you often see a liner that is a size smaller - a liner for a 64 shell in a 66 shell for example - because the WWI shells were smaller in the dome area than the WWII shells.

    Cheers,
    Terry

    Looks like a nice one.

This however is technically not a transitional but a "re-issue"

Transitional helmets are pre war and were double decal.

Sorry, you're right of course - re-issue it is.
