    Default M40 Double Decal Heer - EF64 - Lot # 5049

One of the helmets that has been on my bucket list for just about ever! A helmet that can be dated to the first 3 months of 1940 - an EF64 shell bearing lot number 5049, with a factory applied Heer adler AND a factory applied tri color. New regulations in March 1940 eliminated the application of tri color decals on the combat helmets of the Army, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine branches of the Wehrmacht. Very few double decal M40 combat helmets have survived. When this one appeared on Ken's site last Friday I grabbed it. This one has smooth dark green combat paint and is complete with an excellent size 56 steel/zinc banded liner and a brown marked chinstrap. After I placed the order I googled Double Decal M40 Heer helmet and found one that sold on the Bevo Military site - an EF64 shell, also with the lot number of 5049, with the same decals and same smooth dark green paint, the "twin" of this one. Anyway, here it is. Hope you like it. Jim G.

A rare helmet indeed. Congratulations Jim!

To be able to obtain an example in such a rare configuration that fits into to such a narrow time frame is quite an amazing thing. And then to find one as nice is that is really something!
