The liner might stand a chance, the pins holding the leather to the liner ring look like the original flat German type and not the domed brass Norgie ones, could do with a better close up to be sure. I don't like the decals etc though!..

Sorry, but it is still bad.

Here is one example of a Heer helmet reissued as Luftwaffe that received a later overpaint.

The guys are right, paint and decals (fakes) are post war added.
My guess, is that someone then painted over that in LW colour then added what would to have been a repro LW decal.
The liner might be good and just treated , as you say.
Sorry to say, your hard work has been in vain.

    Actually Guys,

There's a little twist to this thread.

That wasn't the actual eagle. This is which is a bit obliterated, which still has some lacquer on! (I covered it up as I wanted your opinion on the tri colour).

I've also attached a photo of the liner pins which show they are not Norwegian!

And yes I did spend 3 months rubbing the helmet from a Luftwaffe blue.

This lid has a twisted history.
That decal is also a fake, and not a good one at that.
Just because it has been lacquered, doesn't mean it is original.

I wonder what is under this second fake decal(which looks to be the same one rubbed down)? I am out , I guess there are some games I cannot be bothered to play! Leon

    steveramo,
In post # 8 you say that you have never reapplied decals to this helmet, yet in post # 15
you say that for the sake of a "twist" you covered up the decal now shown with a different
decal that has since been removed. Why? There is just no sense to it. The guys have
already nailed the answer to your question. The red flags that this helmet raises stick out
like the proverbial dog's balls. Perhaps an attempt to provoke.....?

    Regards
    Brett
