Finding one in original condition is rare but as an overpaint much less so.

When you say overpaint, do you mean tan color? Or are you referring to the small red flakes of paint left on the shell?

I mean post war overpaint , looks like it has several.

Some authors have stated Quist made the M42s in mid 1944 and were all ND helms issued to mainly civic ( Police & fire )
If so, the speck of red could be a remnant of an original colour?

There are beaded LS M42 as well , seen several. Also no decals.

The yellow paint shards on the inside are due to the repaint not being completely removed.
I thought most of the black paint was factory paint, is that wrong?

I read in some forum that it was issued to Heer and SS.
I don't know if there is evidence.
Of course not all.
I've seen LS with different shapes.
I hope there is some way to clarify
