Default Movie Prop? Fake? Have doubts. Seeking professional advice. Luftwaffe DD Aluminum

    Men,
Evening. Seeking your knowledge. Found this. Have not purchased. Curious. Unsure. Rivets holding chin strap to square loops caught my eye. See chin straps that are sewn or stitched. Does the placement of the decals appear incorrect? This is the first pattern eagle right? Your help is greatly appreciated. All my best to everyone!

    Hi Von Ritt,

I believe the entire helmet to be a reproduction. There are multiple issues with this helmet. Perhaps used a movie prop.

To break it down a little more, the shell is a fake, no patina, fake liner and strap too, additional rivet as you noted. And DD M40’s are incredibly rare which is another red flag. Taking that into account you don’t even need to look at the decals to know it’s a fake.

I think I saw this for sale on EBay trying to be sold as a “parade helmet” and great analysis by Andy.

This is a light weight parade helmet. Not to be compared to an M40 combat helmet. It actually looks pretty good to me although better photos are required to make an educated decision. By the way, it is a second pattern Luft decal not a first pattern.

Thanks Terry and apologies Von Ritt.

Terry, this is one I’ve not come across before with the multiple liner pins which seems like overkill for a non-combat helmet. Do you know what this model is known as? Looks similar to one I think I read about before on this forum and was called, I think, a Rommel Style Helmet.....which I obviously have forgotten about.

I don't know that there is a special name for these other than lightweight parade helmets. Some are aluminum, some fiber, some regular steel. These are not my specialty, I don't own any, so let's wait for the experts to give opinions.

    Cheers,

I do not know hardly anything about these but were these brush painted? From the pictures it looks like it has long brush marks?
