Hi all! I'm very happy to share with you all my last purchase, a M42 with no decal found in an old house in Ravensburg (as the sellers said). It still have some spider webs and dirt so i guess it has never been removed the inner form the shell, and for me looks like a 100% original M42 left once the war was over till today.

I'm going to clean it up a bith just with soap and a brush and apply to the leather some hidratation. It will fit in a display that i'm preparing of Volksgrenadier division battle of the bulge late 1944. As far as i know late war production "M42 no decal" where given for LW, WH and SS with same color pattern right? So would it fit properly for a WH late war soldier? Or do you recon a certain branch of the german army in the color?

I have found the Reichsbetriebsnummer 0/0833/0009 (Hans Römer Neu-Ulm Donau) (?) of the chinstrap in the middle of the chinstrap, first time that i see it. Is there any posibility to know the date of production without knowing the batch number?

Apart from using cloth to clean some cobwebs I would advise against any leather treatment. The leather will remain good like that if it is no longer stored in a basement or barn.

It will also alter the appearance and smell of the leather so not a good idea.

Really nice helmet, i have a taste for barn finds and this ticks all the boxes! Really like it.

But i agree with Schwehrpunkt, leave the leather as it is.

Thanks guys! Then i will leave the leather as it is, just a bit of soap to the shell and cloth for the cobwebs

    Thank for your messages

A nice untouched helmet. I would only use a dry cloth and not go anywhere near it with water.

I like your helmet, a classic forgotton piece that would be found one day
A great helmet and I agree with Adravor and Schwerpunkt, dont touch it

    Thumbs up

Thanks for posting the pics. As I frequently point out, I'm not expert in this area, but to me that looks a very nice, 'honest' helmet. I like it !

I have followed your advised and no depth cleaning, just a dry cloth and a dry soft brush. Now the helmet is displayed and i'm happy to share with you all the final result. Volksgrenadier division battle of the bulge late 1944 (still need a Entrenching tool, and i guess it would be finish).
