I like it too Eric, it has a good look IMO. The ones I've seen usually have the gold decal though. Do you have any pics of others of the type using this decal?

I really hate to say it, but the more I look at it the eagle is looking a bit odd to me..... The detail in the feathers when you zoom in is much more than I've normally seen and the beak is quite different, or have I just missed this variation? I'm more than happy to be wrong and learn something

I highly doubt it is a fake either. Like medals for example, there were multiple manufactures of adlers. Also, I doubt the 80 yr old Pvt who brought it back faked it, lol.
This is a ww2 Austrian luftwaffe decal.
Very rare usely seen on combat helmet,first on a M34 for me.
I've heard of an Austrian Luftwaffe eagle, but, like Doug, I've never seen one like this. Maybe it is the Austrian variant. I wouldn't know either way.
