Hello, everyone. I've had a restored M35 in my collection for a while now, and I'd like to know it's origins.

If there's anyone with a Stahlhelm book and willing to search it up,
    Lotnumber: 998
    Shell size: 68
    Manufacturer: ET

(PS: It's currently a wired DD Heer helmet, with original liner band and a beautiful replica chinstrap. Also has a stamp on the dome. The color looks to be a mix between Apfelgrün and something used in Africa)

    Hello Kyansap,

A lot number is not specific to a helmet and indeed there are helmets with identical lot numbers. Furthermore, lot numbers don’t necessarily denote the shell size of shell or branch of a helmet, however they may give you an indication of when the helmet was made. Schwerpunkt (Frank), has put a lot of time and effort into building his lot number database and it is a very uselful reference (see links below). There are specific examples of helmets in collections that are listed on the database along with descriptions of the helmet itself and other helpful information about lot numbers. The examples on the database are original untouched examples, so if yours has been restored? it would not appear on the list if Frank has previously come across it.

Just to clarify, when you say “restored” do you mean the addition of the strap? Or, has the paint been added post war? Some photos of the helmet would be interesting to see as the liner band etc may offer other clues regarding its history.

    Thanks for the response!

Firstly, I already tried to search it up on the website/pdf that you have sent, but to no avail.
Secondly, the liner band and helmet shell are original. The paint, decals, chinstrap, leather for liner band and the wiring are replica/postwar.

In hindsight, the chinstrap might also be original, although I am not at all sure about that.

The shell is fake too, everything is. So nothing worth investigating. Ditch it and move on.

This reply has had me comparing shells for the last hour, and I truly can not find a difference. I have had it examined by a friend's dad's friend (a stahlhelm specialist) who said it was original. I've even found images (wich were not replicas) online of the skirt being a bit sharper at the curve. The liner band feels original, and I even got pictures of the restoration progress when I bought it (sad to say I have lost those images). So I'm either stupid and it's a fairly good replica, or it's just a misformed original one.

Take their word for it... It's (Chinese) junk. And if your friends dads friend is a specialist, he needs to specialise in something else instead... because he isn't a specialist in German helmets!

    Cheers,

Yeah, I just found it on Nestof. Welp, my childhood just got ruined.

Although I'm probably gonna keep it, since it looks pretty nice and for the fact that it's tricked that many people.

Best regards to everyone who has responded to this,

I'm sure it looks nice to you but a real WW2 relic it is not and not even close.

I know, I have an M40 that I fully restored myself. And also, it was a piece I rarely look at nowadays, so I barely noticed it

    Best regards,

Now to think about it, Nestof brands all their stuff with 'Nestof' and not stuff like Berlin - 1939. Might be (Although probably not) a Dday-1944.com replica, wich are pretty expensive.
