    Hi,
A while ago managed to purchase this M42 helmet. Nothing special about it though, from what i can understand it was manufactured by "Ckl" the stamping is poorly done, the shell size is 64, lot nr. 4732. Cant really tell about the chinstrap if it is original, there seems to be no maker markings. Another question which bothers me is what could have caused the liner leather to deterioate in such a way?
    With best regards,

Looks good to me. Can we see a closeup photo or two of both sides of the long end of the chinstrap?

Any number of things could account for the condition of the liner and 70 plus years later it would be impossible to come to a conclusive answer without some evidence.

A nice piece of history! Congratulations.

I think the chinstrap look fine. If there is no manufacturers stamp on either side of the long end it may be that it was lightly stamped and has worn down with age.

The damage to the leather may have come from a leather treatment or oiling as it looks like the thicker chinstrap material has suffered similarly. Nice to see those unpunched holes at the end...
