Can't make any determination based on these photos. Does it even have vents?

It's anyone's guess. And unfortunately that is what it would be a guess.
If I were in your shoes, I would not waste the effort if the seller can not provide better photos.

I do not know ( nor does anyone living I would assume) at what point in its production the piercing of the 5 holes in a helmet took place - and whether in an M35 or M40
But that is a moot point .......because its MORE THAN LIKELY that this is a post war M35/53 for the "Bundesgrenzschutz" - "Federal Border Guard"
If there is stamping, it will look like this...
