Poor pictures but looks like outside paint and decals are fake.

    Sorry guys
But so I can continue to learn, what is wrong with the decals, what is wrong with the paint.
I want to learn so that I can make my own informed decision at some point.
    Thanks

If you could learn from one bad helmet how to spot others , it would be an easy hobby.
The paint is bad , you will need to learn to distinguish paints of 5 different helmet factories over 3 different helmet models. Learn the difference per 5 factories of the decals they used and that per branch. A tricolor on an M42 is always a red flag.
My website should get you started on the basics , for the rest stick around here and learn from the topics posted.

It's not hard to learn this stuff but it takes time and dedication and lots of good reference materials

We have a decal database here on the forum as well as an untold number of threads to learn from. Frank's website is a fantastic resource too.

We also have a reference library section of the forum that list reference books that are available too

    Thanks guys
I have been perusing the German Helmet Vault and I am I must say a little intimated with the volume of information. This is going to be a long ride.
I will be consuming as much information as possible.
Some reference material is already on the way.
Regarding the Data base, I already have 1 question.
Thought I would start researching the helmet details of the following:
M42 lot number, "504", and the stamped manufacturers code "ckl 66"
But within the data base there is no ckl lot numbers with 3 digits only.
Am I missing something, am I not reading it correctly.
Bear with me, again I am new to this. But we must all start somewhere.
Thanks again everyone for your time and knowledge.

The last digit is probably weakly stamped. So that would definitely make it a no decal helmet.
