What a shame that the SS Runes was pried out of the grip and the lower part of the grip smashed up.

Yes, I wish it was complete… maybe restoration will be in order.

Not in hand it's hard to say for sure. But in looking at it I am reminded of some parts scavaging I've seen using period and postwar components to make one sales worthy blade. With the leftovers set aside for a future date that never took place (that some guys that I've talked to called (future) "projects"). Best Regards, Fred

Or someone simply did not like SS symbols hanging arround in his house and thus discared them. I would leave it as it is, its a nice piece.

I don't really want to change or add anything. Thinking about preserving it.

I wonder how to determine sword's value in existing condition

Depreciated value, based on condition. It's an authentic sword but in poor/fair condition, but might be worth "restoration" (that dirty word). The pommel is heavily corroded yet the D guard is not. Why would that be? Could be that some parts are already replaced.

Condition aside, I think this is a great estate sale find. I only find moth ball scented knick knacks at the estate sales in my area!

D guard is made of stainless steel and pommel just made of carbon steel
