Did you ever considered the fact that there are lots of Lionhead and panther head swords that were issued WITHOUT these red or green eyes?
Have you done the proper research to see if this model came with or without eyes?
I wouldnt restore anything without seeing exact the same model WITH ruby eyes.

Thanks for the input Gerrit!
I don't have it yet. I have looked at many Alcoso lion heads on the internet and have seen both with and without. If it never had them, it won't be getting any. If it did, I will replace them. I would imagine that by the design of the eye socket one will be able to determine if any eyes were mounted. But, I have had the thought that maybe it never did have the glass eyes.
I received the sword this morning and you were indeed correct! The glass eyes were never fitted. Unfortunately, the celluloid grip was cracked in shipping. What is the best way to repair a crack in the grip? There is also a small piece missing, but that I can live with, I just want to stop the crack getting worse. I really like the piece and it is a shame postal employees, like much of society, have little respect for things that do not belong to them.
Grip was cracked in shipping ?
Did you contact the seller about this ?
Can you make some pictures of the grip ?
So, with the final grades in, for her first year of college my daughter managed a 3.88 GPA. In addition to being away from home for the first time in an extended way, some other obstacles presented themselves, and she overcame and succeeded through the adversity. In recognition of these facts, I presented her with her Alcoso cavalry saber and farrier trade patch tonight. She also received a new to her vehicle. Her saber will be being sent out to have the cracked celluloid grip repaired within the next couple days. She was really excited to get the saber as it isn't something one sees much of where we live, and I know long after I am gone, she will remember the day she got these pieces.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Thanks. The car sure will be gone. Most kids wreck their first car too. Luckily we didn't go too crazy and opted for inexpensive and big. I have begun gifting her things for her/our collection on special occasions for exactly the reason you mention. The I pads and gizmos and Chinese made trinkets will all be long gone, but these pieces will still hold the memories for decades to come.
