Article about: I recently acquired a WKC sword with a “D” shaped guard. I haven’t seed a similar in my research, is this a common feature for WKC?

    I recently acquired a WKC sword with a “D” shaped guard. I haven’t seed a similar in my research, is this a common feature for WKC?

    It is a Bavarian Cavalry officer's off duty sabre. The "D" shape is a common feature of Bavarian swords. A full length photo of the blade would be nice, do you have the scabbard?

    Thanks Anderson,

    The blade is straight measuring 84cm, with two full length fullers. The bright finish suggests stainless steel. Scabbard is in excellent condition, void of dents or rust. Full length photos follow:

    Possibly a later period manufactured example, it's true that the Krupp firm in Germany was a pioneer in making stainless steel. But past experience shows that the blade here is to an extremely high probability going to be well preserved nickel plated conventional steel. Best Regards, Fred

    I agree, blade is more likely to be nickel plated, in excellent condition
