Cannot Carry Out a Search on Here

Hello all members,

I tried to carry out a very simple search in the search box at the top and was hit with a message saying I have to join some membership scheme and pay money in order to carry out searches.

Does anybody know why this is so and whether they have the same problem?

Without being at least able to search then it would mean looking through every message that was ever posted and I don't have time for that, so I'd better find out how other people manage to cope.

This has been discussed a few times. We have a very small amount of paying members, maybe 200 - 300 from memory and over 15.000 none paying members. The forum costs money to run and searching on the forum costs money.

Another option is to 'google' warrelics followed by what you want to find. I will often use this tactic when looking for something specific.

As said by Will, the forum does cost money to run and without support it would not be viable. The level of information contained here is well worth the relatively small donation and would be akin to purchasing a reference work once a year.

If you don't have the time and patience to do a little research it may not be the hobby for you!

I can personally say that the nominal membership fee will quickly pay dividends and is more than worth it. I highly recommend joining.

To add to the above, the search function uses Google Search. Google charges the forum for each and every search. The costs were becoming too much to keep the forum in the black.

As such the only option was to limit it to paying members. Not something that the forum Admins wanted to do but there wasn't other viable options.

So as Tracy said above, the nominal annual membership fee is more than worth it. Even if it saves you from purchasing ONE bad item, the cost savings are very large. And even if you don't use the search function, the help provided by members here if they save you from buying a fake is worth the membership fee or a donation.

I read what you wrote and it is quite clear. You are too busy to put in any time to doing some research and you do not wish to support the forum by making a donation.

I'm more than happy to help people and have done so for a number of years on this forum but its generally more helpful and more appreciated when posters put in a little effort!

My response was to explain why the forum was forced to remove the search function. In the past it was available to anyone, but the costs the forum was being charged by Google maid this untenable and still remain solvent

As Will noted, there is a work around to non paying members. And that is to use Google or another web search engine. Type in your question and add WRF or Warrelics and you should be able to find hits/links on the forum to review

Looking forward to your participation

As a side note, we don't require members to become a Gold member, but it does help keep the forum running, gives access to certain databases. It's a small cost if it saves a member lots of money from buying a fake.
