Why am I not able to reply?

    Back in the 1960s, 70s and early 1980s there were "jumble sales" these were usually held in church or village halls and the term came about by the piles of old clothes, and other bits and pieces that were sold. At the end of the sale anything not sold was collected by "the rag man" who took away clothes to be pulled apart for making into wadding or recycled.

    Here we call them 'Rummage sales" because you are rummaging through all the piles of stuff.
