British 17th Lancers Death's Head Button

Article about: I obtained this nicely worn brass button bearing a Death's Head symbol. I believe it is a 17th Lancers tunic button probably from WWI or earlier perhaps. It is well made but has no markings.

    Nice button !

    Looks like a Victorian-era one.

Unusual to have no maker marks.

Now you just need a few related items ....................

Thanks Robin, I took a chance on the button not knowing what it was at the the time. It was erroneously listed as a Wehrwolf Bund button. For the time being it will have to settle in with some unrelated German skulls.

    Al.

    It actually IS related !

It's a (very, very) long historical story, which I won't bore folks here with, but just think ............... Georgian Britain ................. Hannovarians ................ 17th Hussars (Brunswick) .............. 17th Lancers ..................... you get the drift.

Here's a quick example of the connection.

A Victorian 17th Lancers pouch badge which I have, versus a contemporary Brunswick 17th Hussars shako. The skulls are pretty much identical.
