Default Gymnasterka dated 1939 real? How to put shoulder boards on it?

    Hi guys,

I would like you to take a look of this Gymnasterka. I wonder if it is 1939 - as the stamp indicates. Also there is an misprinted button applied on the left breast pocket.

I also would like to know how the shoulder boards were attached to the uniform. I don't have a clue. I have a pair of shoulder boards ( any comment welcome) I would like to put on the Gymnasterka. This Gymnasterka should, as 'the story' goes, have belonged to an Red army nurse. Who lived in the part of what we call Ukraine today.

    Thanks Paul

Hello Paul. The pocket on the inside suggests late 1940s production at earliest. On the stamp, I read 1959 which makes sense; this pattern was introduced in 1943.

The epaulettes should have a tongue that goes through a loop on the tunic. They seem to be missing on both.

    Looks dated 1959 indeed.

    That explains a lot.

    Thx for your comment.

Hello, the parade shoulder boards are very nice, end of the war or early postwar. This pair could be worn with a tunic from end of 40's to mid 50's. theoretically, 1959 is too late IMO. But this gimnasterka looks like a good early postwar, you can associate the boards and the tunic.
An experienced collector will detect the anomaly but the set will still be very harmonious.

    Jean.
