Default American Spitfire Pilot One Piece Flight Suit

    Hello All

I am new to the forum and am wondering about the flight suit in the linked photo. My father picked it up at Wright Patterson on his way to Europe and was told at the time that it was a prototype with only 3 produced. He liked it because it was very warm and less bulky than the typical 2 piece flight suits. His fellow pilots would sometimes "borrow" it for their missions.

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum!

Sadly I cannot help on the flight suit: never seen one like it before.

I have copied your photo to your post as links sometimes die and also some members can be wary of clicking on links.

I must say though I enjoyed seeing the other pics in your link. I never realised that the USAAF used Spitfires.

    Cheers, Ade.

Here's a nice little linky to American Spitfire squadrons.

Thanks Ade and Ned. I will take a color photo of it the next time I visit dear old dad. I will also check for tags to see who made the suit. He preferred Spit MK XIs for long distance high altitude work over the more common F-5s (P-38s) which were commonly used by the 7th PRG. He volunteered for the 14th Squadron which had all the MK XIs.

    Cheers
