It appears fine, it date from late 1942 to 1945 as it is the so-called austerity 40 pattern

Do not wash it.
Brush it or carefully use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and dirt.
A steam cleaner can also be used.

Probably wouldn't need to use anything more than a lint roller to take care of dust and debris. As far as ingrained dirt goes, it's part of the item's history. Better to leave it as it is.
