Question about British officers' ammunition boots

My question is a very straightforward one indeed: did British officers sometimes wear black ammo boots instead of the usual brown leather ones during the Second World War?

I have seen a few colour illustrations of British officers wearing black ammo boots during WWII, hence my question...

So, here is a colour photo of the Queen Mother inspecting the Black Watch of Canada in England, in August 1940.





The reason why I was asking was because, for want of something better, I have chosen a pair of post-war black ammo boots to give my D-Day mannequin its final touch.
