US Army P1941 cotton HBT jacket in sage green

The Pattern 1941 US Army cotton HBT (Herringbone twill) uniform made from 8.2 ounce heavy HBT came in jacket and trousers. The jacket was originally designed to be worn over wool shirts and original idea was for wearing for fatigue duties. However during WW2 it was very commonly used as combat clothing in hot weather. The first pattern used cotton HBT in a light "sage green" that faded to a even lighter shade over time.
In late 1943 the uniform was revised and slightly changed and colour changed to olive drab.

The NZ Army arriving at Guadalcanal in 1943 found their NZ made heavy khaki drill uniform unsuitable in both colour and too hot to wear in the tropical heat, so acquired the P1941 uniform for troops heading for the invasion of Vella Lavalla island in September 1943. My example below.

In my nearly 50 years of collecting I was unaware that the NZ troops wore US HBTs..
