Default World War I U.S. Field Jacket for Review

I picked up this jacket at the Allentown show for $80. It seems to be near mint. I was hoping someone could help me clarify what the sleeve insignia are... I've been told that the chevron could represent a wounded soldier OR honorable discharge. Nobody I've spoken to can clarify what the flatwire star represents...

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Great find Joe!!!
I am sorry I don't know very much about this period yet. Still learning from the crew here on the forum. I think This WWI stuff is going to be the ticket next year. Don't get me wrong. I still like my WWII stuff.

    Hello,

This is a standard Us Army pattern 1917 tunic for an infantry Private. The US collar disc stands for US, the crossed rifles is for infantry, the red stripe is for an honorable discharge. I have no idea about the star. The stars are usually seen on the portion of the sleeve on ROTC tunic of the period and in different branch colors.

    Hi Chris,

The star represents Calvary scout? If so, what kind of gear would this soldier be outfitted with?

    Hello,

If this tunic was for a Cavalry scout he would be wearing a Cavalry disc. The star is not an indicator of branch nor service.
