    Hello Gent's,
    I have been looking for a belt for a jacket I had. Trying to match colors of 75 year old clothing is getting harder
    Well I found this belt and it looked like it had a brass buckle and it was tarnished, But when I got it,

    It Plastic??? I thought they used gilded metal/Brass....
    What year did they use plastic?

    From what I know 43 Mate, you'll find buttons made of this too.

    I believe back then it was called bakelite and similar to plastic. Kind of an early version of plastic. I see them often on buttons but have seen them on officer's belts on occasion.

    Naa not Bakelite, from what I know Bakelite has a different composition. I stand to be corrected. Note the see though/translucent button screw rear from my '43 Philla depot made cap.

    Hey Phil one of my flight suits '43 has this material also! Note the moulded fake stitching.
