Ooh what a beauty you served up there! These high numbers does not come around too often. In fact this is the 3rd highest Mccord number I have ever seen (seen a 1290C and 1292A). Is it possible for you to take some more close up of the Lot?
A question, how would you describe those loops, the very “rings”? To me they look like carbon steel, at least not prototypical stainless steel. They look a little oxidized, not stainless, even rusty maybe? Or it it just all paint?
Hi there,
do you mean the rim? or the eyelets for the chin strap.
Both are made of steel.
The bails are likely to be made of stainless steel. There are no traces of patina or rust here.
I photographed the heat stamp from all possible angles and lighting options. It doesn't get any better.
I see 1289 C there
Very tidy helmet, condition is almost pristine. A nice addition to your collection!
Thanks for the images.
I can see its not prototypical stainless steel. I call it carbon steel. Do not really know what it is made of, suspect it is because of less chromium in it, but do not really know. So many types of steels / stainless steels. Maybe it mangalloy (manganese steels)? Have to get me one of the X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer but unfortunately a little too expensive for me.
