    Hello Gentlemen,

I was looking at a WW2 MSA marked “25” liner and on the sweatband is this apparent serial number preceded by a dug out R in two places. What I’m wondering is why there are more than the typical 4 numbers following the R? Have any of you seen this format variation?

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks guys. I just haven't seen this type of service number format (laundry code) in a WW2 liner. It isn't abbreviated to 4 digits so if it's the complete service number, it appears too short for WW2, but I could be wrong about that.

In WW2 a Officers service number started with a ‘O’, posted is an example.

    Hello

    yes there are temporal differences

    in WW2 "R" = Regular Army

From the 50s to the end of the 60s "R" = Army officer dieticians.

The problem here is that the R was scratched in later and was not originally part of the stamp.

A 6-digit personnel number can be found on officers in WW2 and later.

Thanks, that's good information! The later scratched in "R" is certainly a head scratcher.

What a “B” prefix again? I forget. Regular army as well? I have a couple of those on mine.
