Vietnam(?) era M1 and liner in the trash
Article about: I picked up this m1 from the trash heap. The US steel pot has a heat stamp that I think says: M72A. However, it also has an ink stamp that says: 00599. The steel pot is named to: PVT E1 TOMM

Re: Vietnam(?) era M1 and liner in the trash
I'm guessing the long number written in the sheel is actuall US 54,050,599 which would be a post war Army Draft Force service number. (between 1948 & 1966)
It's a rear seam post war shell, chin strap and liner but I can't be of much help beyond that.
Take a shot with the name and service number on the National Archives site, you might get lucky with info in this guy.
Good Luck
Russ
