Friends, there must be a thread for this, sorry, but i couldnt see one...i am looking to track down a nice original leather chin strap for this early helmet set, and just wondered if you could advise on the criteria for a period chin strap?

I have found two available, do these look good?

    Thank you, as always, Shaun

I am on the road I will have to chime in later about the details for the chin straps. Somebody may beat me to it

The top strap green buckle looks to be second type which was made in 42-43.

The bottom chinstrap look to be made of brass which would put it in the 1944 range. The leather looks a little thicker and may be a late 43 but I lean towards a 44 date.

I still say the first one.

May I ask the asking price?

Thanks marty, that's really interesting, I know nothing about these other than there is green and black metal work!
Big difference in asking price, first one is $110, bottom $60

That’s about right on the price, a little high but not by much.

Thanks very much Marty - can I ask what gives it away? The leather finish?
