ww2 us navy m1 damage control helmet?

Got this dirt cheap on fleabay and was wondering what your thoughts are, I am thinking it a ww2 era m1 front seam shell with post ww2 liner and I believe this is a us navy damage control helmet but not 100% sure, pics below are from seller not mine

Great pick up,remember last year a whole batch like these being sold on ebay by the same seller,apparently came from a closed down Yacht yard,all the same red paint but differant markings on each one,I like it but haven't a clue about the KID stamp,but looks totally original,well done either way...............

This looks like it might be a Army range officer's helmet. KD is the abbreviation for the Known Distance range and it looks the the "i" might be a subdued 1LT bar.
