    My first impression is that it's a Navy 5"/38 projectile. These were used on Destroyers as main armament. A very versatile gun.

    He says it has a hole in the bottom and is empty, so I'd say it's safe.

    Worth saving from the scrap pile.

    It might need a strong shelf to display it. I have a 4.5 inch WW1 Howitzer shell sitting on the wall in the garden. That's the closest I've ever got to getting it indoors!
