I'm a huge fan of the Blood Order, but the Order of the Dead takes the cake in my book. It has beauty and quality reminiscent of the imperial era.
Rob.
Tough question. Personally, I like the MK, DK, and the Golden Party Badge too. And...and...and...and...
If I really start...I'll never stop.
Regards,
Carl
I like the design of the Westwall Medal, but I also think
the General Assault badges are cool too.........!
( I go for symmetry ! )
Although, I think the Pilot badge is beautiful as well.

Steve.
To be blunt, you earned this award by being dead. Hence the commonly used name the Order of the Dead. It's real name is the Deutscher Ordern or simply the German Order. It is a very very rare award, arguably THE rarest and certainly the most spectacular.
You can read more about it here: Deutscher Ordern.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
Hi
Sorry to "warp" your thread a bit Adrian but what else could you expect from a 60 year old geezer that still trips on the 30's "pie eyed" Mickey Mouse AND Third Reich Regalia?
Now retired but I come from a graphic/industrial engineering background with a strong interest in history, militaria and heraldic art particularly Germany's. I have always been fascinated how the eagle has been used from Charlemagne's first Reich on as an ever renewed symbol of Germany and, particularly so during the Third Reich era where its combination to the Hakenkreuz has resulted in such powerful, innovative (for the times) and beautiful regalia. So...
While I do collect everything Third Reich my limited resources allow me to (decorations, badges, uniform insignia, daggers etc) my real passion (nothing to do with my head or lack thereof as you requested I'm afraid ) has always been anything with well designed "birds". I have too many favorites given the broad range of application of the eagle to decorations, badges uniform insignia etc in Nazi Germany but if I had to choose only one item I guess it would have to be an early pilot badge like the nickel silver Juncker first pattern (J1) I am trying to attach a picture of (my last attempt to post pictures turned to mush). Delicate, graceful and yet very powerful
Hope you enjoy it if it makes it (even if the picture is a bit fuzzy)
