opinions on hollow back wound badge- gold or stripped?

thanks in advance for looking, a very informed collector has said this is bad and before I chuck it in the drawer, opinions welcome.

It looks like a stripped black with a 4 stamped in the reverse of the helmet.
St.& L. I believe. Hinge looks replaced, maybe the catch as well.
Seems to have weak details, wait for other opinions.

It is stripped back. I got caught with one of those.
