research
Hi all.
Chatting to a colleague at work, I discovered he had several German relatives in the Wehrmacht. Only "Uncle Hans" failed to return.
He has shown me his Verwundetenabzeichen in gold, still boxed, and in great condition!
My colleague has no idea of Hans' unit or place/date he fell in action, only that he thinks it was on the eastern front'
I was wondering if a list of recipients of the gold award exists anywhere as I may be able to narrow things down to a few individuals and cross reference the name to Hans' home town.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Brian

Re: research
I wish you luck with your research Brian but I don't think you'll get far by the Gold Verwundetenabzeichen route. These weren't named or issued with records such as the RK for example where recipients names were known.
Unless Uncle Hans had scratched his unit on the back or it's been written on the box you will have a hard job. It would be best to get more information from your colleague and ask him to speak to relatives or just find out Uncle Hans' full name and then go from there.
Would your friend mind if you took any photos to share on the forum?

Re: research
Thanks Adrian.
I knew it was a long shot, but I know his full name (need to confirm spelling) and have a rough idea of where he lived.
I thought (hoped) a list might save some time.
The relatives I believe are now out of touch.
I will try for some photos of the badge....
Thanks again,
Brian.
