Typical uniform for the Rangers and other units in the 70's and 80's. I wore Vietnam era OG-107s like this while with the 101st Airborne in the 80's. This was the "Deployment" uniform as part of the 18th Airborne Corps RDF (Rapid Deployment Forces)

The ghost images are what you said, with the larger scroll on the sleeve being for one of the Ranger Battalions or possibly the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Would they have been subdued or full color?

Here is what the scrolls looked like and the Ranger School tab. I don't have a picture of the Regiment but it is the same as the 1st through 3rd Ranger Bn Scrolls except it says 75 on one side and REGT on the opposite side.

    They are both fine Signalguy,,

The darker edge border thread on the Ranger tab is not uncommon and the Ranger Regiment patch is fine too.

    Hi guys

These ones can be difficult in as much as what the individual would wear.

Can you confirm which shoulder the ghost images are on. Right is FWTS and left is then current assignment.

I just want to give a brief scroll history of 75th Rangers during the 1970's-80's, which might partially answer or confuse the issue.

From 1969 to 1974 they were known as 75th Infantry Regt.(Airborne). The Army decided to consolidate all the LRP co.s under 75th based on the lineage and design of Merrill's Marauders, which the Rangers did not like and made and used unofficial scrolls.

1974-1984 the army formed the new 1st (Ranger) Abn and 2d (Ranger) Bn ,75th Infantry (Ranger) Airborne and they refused to wear the 75th Inf SSI and created new Ranger Airborne Scrolls.Which they were recognized after Grenada 1983 operation.

1984-1986 they added a 3rd Ranger Airborne Bn provisional and in 1986 became 1st,2d,3d Ranger Bn 75th Ranger Regiment.
